Re: Alaska Airlines support for Commission action on employee parking at SEA
Dear Commissioners,
On behalf of Alaska Airlines, I write to express our strong support for item 10c. on today’s
Commission agenda, providing a much-needed expansion of employee parking for Seattle-
Tacoma International Airport (SEA). This initiative is vital for all of us who are committed to
keeping our airport running smoothly and efficiently.
As our workforce continues to grow in response to rising travel demand, many airport employees,
including our many union-represented employees, are encountering significant challenges in
finding reliable parking at SEA. Many of these dedicated individuals live in surrounding areas such
as Kent, Puyallup, Auburn, and Tacoma, where access to public transportation is limited and
commutes can be quite challenging.
For those who do live closer to more reliable transit options, like Sound Transit’s light rail system,
the situation is still problematic. Light rail does not operate during the late evening or early
morning hours when many of our employees are scheduled to work, making the need for
convenient and accessible parking all the more pressing. Ultimately, this expansion isn’t just
about parking; it’s about enhancing the overall employee experience and providing our dedicated
staff with the options they deserve to fulfill their roles effectively.
Moreover, we are committed to working collaboratively with the Port of Seattle on solutions that
address the needs of our employees while also promoting sustainable transportation options,
including through the work of the Port’s Transportation Management Association (TMA). By
expanding parking facilities, we can address the pressing transportation needs of our shared
workforce while working together to enhance employee participation in these initiatives.
We are grateful to Port leadership and staff for partnering with airlines and other airport tenants to
identify viable transportation solutions to support our shared workforce at SEA. Investing in
P
expanded employee parking will not only benefit our airport operation but also significantly
enhance the working environment for all employees at SEA. Together, we can foster a more
efficient and supportive workplace for everyone.
Thank you for your support of this important initiative.
Sincerely,
Randy Fiertz

Subject: Please support expansion of the South King County Community Impact Fund
Dear Port of Seattle Commissioners,
I urge you to cast your vote in favor of expanding the South King County Community Impact Fund. The
communities most adversely impacted by Port activities deserve an opportunity to build capacity and
provide leadership for solutions that benefit their environment and health. The wealth generated by the
Port and served by the Port of Seattle also includes communities that suffer from the negative impacts
and this fund helps mitigate those impacts.
Our organization, Seattle Parks Foundation, serves as the fiscal sponsor for hundreds of green space
and related projects and know that funding community based organizations can make a profound
difference in the lives of individuals, families, neighborhoods and ultimately, our region.
Thank you for expanding the Community Impact Fund and for continuing to streamline the processes
that make the funding accessible and most impactful especially to smaller, community based
organizations.
Sincerely,
Michelle

Due to a conflict, I unfortunately cannot give comment either in person or on Teams today. To try and still have as
much impact in this communication medium I will instead be brief and to the point.
1) The EA released yesterday is a gross violation of NEPA.
2) The analysis developed in its 2630 pages of Port/FAA/Contractor produced content should have been
guided/informed by the 2229 pages of Scoping comments submitted in 2018 by members of the public (including
many Vashon Island Residents) and other stakeholders. Instead they were for the most part completely ignored and
all the work your constituents put into creating and submitting them had about the same impact as voting in a
Venezuelan presidential election. I would point out, however, that unlike Venezuela the United States still has an
independent judiciary, which is now unburdened by Chevron Deference as a bonus. While 2012’s drive-by
“Greener Skies” EA was successfully hidden from Vashon Island residents, the Port/FAA will not be as lucky with
the SAMP EA.
3) In 2017 Port of Seattle Commission meeting testimony, the NW Mountain Regional Administrator of the FAA
told you, in person, that the implementation of NextGen procedures over Vashon Island was the most significant
change to the Puget Sound airspace since the introduction of civilian radar 70+ years ago, yet it is completely
missing from the Cumulative Impacts section. This is beyond arbitrary and capricious; it is premeditated and
calculated deception.

[EXTERNAL] Public Comment for Agenda Item 8g for meeting 10/22/24

Hello Port of Seattle Commissioners,
I am writing to submit a public comment for the Port of Seattle Commission Meeting on October
22nd, 2024, agenda item 8g - South King County Community Impact Fund Program 5-year
Authorization Request.
I am writing in support of this request, and with the hope that the Commission approves and fully
funds this request. The South King County Impact Fund has provided accessible funding for
community-led programming in underserved communities, and it is vital that this fund is renewed so
community-led groups can continue to provide services and programs to their communities.
This re-authorization request updates and expands the South King County Impact Fund in important
ways that show how Commissioner Hasegawa, Director Gheisar, and Director Edwards have listened to
community ideas, needs, and requests, and responded with real solutions. I appreciate the new tiered
approach model that will allow for community groups to get support with capacity building in port-
related expertise, the expansion of the geographic reach, and the increased funding that will be
available. 
As the leader of a community-based organization, a resident of the Georgetown neighborhood of
South Seattle, and a contractor on a current South King County Fund grant, I fully support this re-
authorization request proposal, and I hope that the Port of Seattle Commission does as well.
Thank you for your consideration,
Andrew Schiffer
