ACTION REQUESTED
Request Commission authorization for the Executive Director to: (1) Increase the project scope
and associated budget by $1,000,000 for a final revised total budget of $15,000,000 and, (2)
Purchase one PLB and associated equipment for Gate B11.
SUMMARY
Reliable, well-operating passenger loading bridges are critical to airline and airport operations.
Recently, during a quarterly preventative maintenance inspection, the structural integrity of gate
B11 was identified as an elevated risk of failure. This PLB has been in operation since 1987 and
was partially refurbished in 2012. It primarily serves domestic travelers. Staff recommends
accelerating the replacement of this PLB to prevent an unanticipated protracted shutdown and
emergency replacement.
This request will transfer the scope and budget of Gate B11 to the PLB Phase 3 project (C801180)
from the PLB Phase 4 Project (C801308) and accelerate the replacement into the 2024
construction season. This timeline will align with a planned gate outage that is required for the
Airfield Improvement Project and minimize the impact to airport operations. The PLB Phase 4
project is still in the planning phase and will return later for additional authorization.
