Dear Esteemed Commissioners/Port Officials:
I have lived in SeaTac since 2014 and have been deeply demoralized how many green spaces have
been clearcut all around me in that short time. This when the climate catastrophe is only amplifying all
around is and every tree matters more than ever to all of us for so many reasons. I am one of many
thousands of local citizens who have signed a petition to beg the port/commission to preserve the
trees in and around North SeaTac Park which cool our neighborhoods, offer wildlife vital habitat,
reduce air pollution around the airport, and increase our collective mental health. No surprise, the
presence of and access to green spaces is also associated with reductions in crime. Urban blight
serves none of us well and that should be reflected in public policy and decision making.
Will you be taking steps to honor the citizens who value this important park by preventing it from being
razed for commercial development? Please say yes. We NEED these trees.

Dear Commission President Cho, Vice President Hasegawa, and Commissioners Calkins, Felleman, and
Mohamed,
Eight months ago, the Joint Advisory Committee Regarding North SeaTac Park (JAC) published a
statement indicating that the Port and the City of SeaTac "share each other’s commitment" to
preserving North SeaTac Park. However, since that time, the JAC has not provided the public with any
specific plans or even strategies under consideration that would achieve the keystone goal:
permanentpreservation as a park of the entirety of North SeaTac Park.
I urge you to work now in good-faith partnership with your colleagues from the City of SeaTac
toidentify specific mechanismscapable of achieving this goal and present them to the public for
comment and debate. Delay on this issue is not acceptable.

For months, the public has reached out to you on the subject of
North SeaTac Park, including a petition signed by nearly 3,000
community members. As I’m not aware of you having made any
public statement that you support permanent protection of the
entirety of this park, I am writing to you today to respectfully
request your response to this question:
Do you support permanent protection of the entirety of North
SeaTac Park and will you act immediately to prevent further
steps toward development of land in this park until there has
been time to identify and implement solutions to permanently
protect it?
I hope your answer is “yes”. If it is not, please share what it would
take for you get you to get to yes. Reassurances that the Port
doesn’t plan to develop the park, as the Port has recently made,
would not address my question, given that the park is zoned
aviation commercial, that the Port’s 2021 Real Estate Strategic
Plan recommends development in the park, and that 55 acres of
the park can be taken out of use at any time.

Achieving permanent protection of the entire park may require
innovative approaches. These may include options like
conservation easements, land swaps, or designating the park and
surrounding forest as a carbon offset zone or a natural heritage
site. Given the established benefits of green space and trees for
reducing human exposure to aviation pollution and the fact that
our racially and economically diverse community bears a severe
burden of environmental health disparities, perhaps legal solutions
and funding could be found to designate this area as a public
health or environmental justice improvement district.
Transfer of park ownership to the City of SeaTac, as suggested by
the current City leadership, as long as it legally required
permanent protection for the entirety of the park, is another option.
In 1990, the Port signed an agreement to convey title to the
northernmost 80 acres of the park to the City*. So it is unlikely that
there would be any legal barriers to such a step.
It is not acceptable to develop this park commercially. Nor is it
acceptable for it to stay in a zoning designation that limits the city’s
ability to improve the park, prevents Tub Lake from being a
wetlands preserve as has been recommended for decades, and
severely restricts access to the considerable federal, state, and
county funding that is now being made available to restore forests
in urban areas just like ours.

My family has used the park trails, rugby field, and grassy areas for a decade as a

for decades to come. Additionally, so many animals live there and call it home. Green
spaces are incredibly important in cities for people to experience nature, soI hope
your answer is “yes”. If it is not, please share what it would take for you to get to yes.

Dear Port of Seattle Commissioners,
I would like to note my strong opposition to cruise ships in Seattle. This is a dirty and polluting industry
(the most environmentally unfriendly way to vacation) and the small economic benefits to the city are
absolutely not worth the cost. It has been proven the the economic benefit to cruise ports is highly
inflated, with most people eating, drinking and staying on the ships. It’s also an exploitative industry,
with the cruise ship employees not making much money or having good benefits.
We can still get economic benefits from our port without these huge polluting cruise ships. Let's put
restrictions on the largest and most offending cruise companies and support the smaller, local
companies like UnCruise and Salish Sea Tours. We need to find ways that tourists can appreciate and
enjoy our natural resources without the harm caused by these mega-ships.

I'm a constituent residing in West Seattle and am writing to express my support for protecting all of North Seatac Park
including its rugby fields and bike trails. This heavily used and beloved park is incredibly valuable green-space and
recreation space for the Seatac/Burien communities.
My family uses this park for rec soccer, biking, disc golf, walking and enjoying nature.
The community would like to know if its elected commissioners publicly support full protection of North Seatac Park?
It is false that commissioners can't speak about this proposal. It is indeed lawful for commissioners to state their
position about a proposal under NEPA review. So, it is not acceptable for commissioners to refuse to answer
questions from the public or share their position about this issue that is so important to the community they serve.
