Hello!
My name is Aer Parris, and I'm a Seattle resident concerned about our impact on the
environment. I'm writing to comment on meeting agenda item 11a, the Port’s
proposed 2021 federal legislative agenda.
I see in the memo that you support solutions to address the climate crisis, which I'm
glad to hear as we have 9 years to slash emissions to avoid climate change
catastrophes even greater than what we are already experiencing.
However, I'm concerned because the Port's largest source of contributions to this
crisis is emissions from aviation fuel burning. That's because burning aviation fuel
warms the climate at 3 times the rate of aviation CO2 emissions alone.
To make meaningful change, we must reduce the emissions from fuel burned. How
can we do that? Reduce aviation activity. Sadly, this is the exact opposite of what the
Port is pushing for: doubling flights in Sea-Tac as soon as possible.
I strongly request that the Port works toward a quick reduction of air travel. That's the
only solution.
Note: Biofuels won't help as they don't reduce emissions from fuel burned and
increasing flights will still increase emissions overall.
