COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING JUNE 4, 2020
The Port of Seattle Commission held a special meeting, Thursday, June 4, 2020, as a commission
retreat session. The retreat was held remotely in accordance with the governor’s ‘Stay at Home’
order and Proclamation 20-28. Commissioners Bowman, Calkins, Cho, Felleman, and Steinbrueck
were present.
The meeting convened approximately at 8:30 a.m.

Commissioners and staff met in a retreat to discuss updates to the 2020 budget and priorities for the
remainder of the budget year in response to the economic impacts of COVID-19. Expectations and
process for the 2021 budget was also discussed. Updated revenue projections, to-date budget
reductions, and equity in budgeting were presented to Commissioners and discussed at length.
Commissioners were also provided with background economic information including Port financial
background information and industry background information.
Commissioners and staff discussed priorities for economic recovery and investing in the community,
as well as laying out goals for 2021 investments. The 2021 budget discussion began with reviewing
the established guiding principles, as well as the structure and anticipated timeline of the 2021 budget
process.

The retreat concluded with an update from staff and discussion regarding Port policing and best
practices in light of a nationwide call to action in regard to equity in policing.
The retreat concluded and the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
