Dear Commissioners,

I am submitting this comment to express my concern regarding the Port of Seattle's continued

spending on Sea-Tac Airport improvements (e.g., Agenda Item 6c).

As of 2017, aviation emissions -- measured by fuel pumped -- made up a quarter of King

County's greenhouse gas emissions. This is before considering that aviation emissions have a

2.7 times higher warming impact than on-the-ground emissions. Given that dire need to

reduce greenhouse gas emissions dramatically in the next decade, there is no justification for

continuing to lay the groundwork for a continued increase in aviation emissions; money

currently penned for airport projects should be redirected to zero- or low-emission public

work projects, not projects that support continued and increasing aviation emissions.

The current downturn in aviation activity presents a unique opportunity to shift toward a truly

sustainable mode of moving people and goods. The Port of Seattle should lead the way

through this transition by redirecting investments from Sea-Tac to truly sustainable

transportation and cargo infrastructure.
