MOTION 2020-02:
A MOTION OF THE PORT OF SEATTLE COMMISSION
adopting the charter of a Port of Seattle Commission
Biometrics Special Committee to review the proposals of
the Biometrics Working Group and Advisory Group and
develop new policies or update existing policies governing
the use of public-facing biometric technology at port
facilities, as needed, for Port of Seattle Commission
Through this motion, the commission adopts the attached charter of the Biometrics Special
Committee to review proposals developed by the Biometrics Working Group and Advisory Group,
established by Motion 2019-13 on December 10, 2019, and provide recommendations to the
Port of Seattle Commission. The committee shall develop policies or update existing port policies
that govern the use of pubic-facing biometric technology at port facilites, as needed and based
on the proposals from the Biometrics Working Group and Advisory Group, for the Port of Seattle
Commission consideration. The committee shall exist until such policies are developed or
updated for Port of Seattle Commission consideration.
The Biometric Working Group and Advisory Group proposals that govern the use of public-facing
biometric technology at port facilities shall be submitted to the committee in advance of the
commission for review. The committee’s recommendations to the commission are due by the
end of the first quarter of 2020. Any new policies developed or existing policies updated by the
committee that govern the use of public-facing biometric technology at port facilities shall be
provided to the commission by the end of the second quarter of 2020.
