COMMISSION
AGENDA MEMORANDUM
DATE: August 6, 2019
TO: Stephen P. Metruck, Executive Director
FROM: David Soike, COO
SUBJECT: 2019 Second Quarter Capital Improvement Projects Report
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This marks the first report following recent reorganization where the project management
departments now report directly to the business operating divisions. This report will therefore
evolve over time from a corporate view to an operating division format. This briefing will
provide an update on the status of projects managed by Aviation’s Project Management,
Seaport’s Project Management, and the Information and Communications Technology
departments. The report provides information on a total of 91 Capital Improvement projects.
The project variances in budget and schedule are reported during the construction phase. Out
of the 91 projects, 42 projects are either in design or planning phase and a variance is not
reported on these projects. 4 new variances follow for the 49 projects that are either in an
Implementation/Construction Phase.
Projected (off/over) – Yellow
This quarter, nine projects are substantially complete.
ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND
The Commission has earlier received the Capital Improvement Projects Report for the second
quarter of 2019. This presentation provides an update on the status of those projects that have
a reportable condition relating to budget, schedule, or scope.
This briefing supports the reporting requirements of the Port of Seattle General Delegation of
Authority and the Commission motion of January 8, 2008, regarding “Report on Major Capital
Projects.”
