TEXT OF THE MOTION 14
15
The Port of Seattle Commission hereby adopts the attached charter of the 2019 Energy and 16
Sustainability Special Committee to provide information, advice, and recommendations about 17
fulfilling the port’s Century Agenda environmental and sustainability goals, including being the 18
greenest and most energy-efficient port in North America and meeting all increased energy 19
needs through conservation and renewable sources, and to perform the scope of work 20
elaborated in the attached charter. This charter replaces the charter of the 2018 Energy and 21
Sustainability Special Committee adopted March 27, 2018, which replaced the charter of the 22

STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF THE MOTION 25
26
An Energy and Sustainability Committee was originally chartered by the Port of Seattle 27
Commission on January 26, 2016. On October 24, 2017, the Commission passed a motion 28
supporting the committee’s recommendation to align the Port’s greenhouse gas reduction 29
goals with those of King County and the City of Seattle. It also instructed Port staff to develop a 30
Sustainability Evaluation Framework to assist the Port in meeting its greenhouse gas reduction 31
and sustainability goals. The work of the 2016 Energy and Sustainability Committee concluded 32
in December 2017. 33
34
The Port had significant strategic environmental decisions in 2018 that required an added level 35
of oversight and engagement by the Chairs of this Committee, Commissioners Fred Felleman 36
and Ryan Calkins. The Port of Seattle Commission made chartering of a new Energy and 37
Sustainability Committee one of its top priorities for 2018. 38
39
The 2019 Energy and Sustainability Committee will continue the work of the previous 40
Committees. The Committee will deliver a Sustainable Project Framework Resolution; continue 41
