The Port of Seattle Commission hereby adopts the attached charter of the Workforce 18
Development Special Committee to provide information, advice and recommendations to the 19
Port of Seattle Commission in pursuit of the Port’s Century Agenda goal to use the Port’s 20
influence as an institution to promote women and minority business enterprise (WMBE) 21
growth, small business growth, and workforce development with a focus on the objective to 22
increase workforce training, job, and business opportunities for local communities in trade, 23
travel, and logistics. 24

The Committee will also make reccomendations to the Commission on how the Port can create 26
a foundation for a diverse economy with a focus on industries necessary to support Port capital 27
construction and wider economic vitality. 28

STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF THE MOTION 30

The Worforce Development Special Committee, chaired by Commissioners Stephanie Bowman 32
and Ryan Calkins, has been chartered to review the Century Agenda strategy associated with 33
workforce development, to review and make recommendations for updating the workforce 34
development policy and the five year strategic plan. The committee will also provide 35
recommendations for the development of the maritime high school feasibility and business 36
plan development. 37

This will be the first year for the Workforce Development Committee. The timing coincides with 39
the fourth year of the current five-year strategic plan and five years after adoption of a motion 40
