SUBJECT: Policy Roundtable on Seattle Freight Mobility
BACKGROUND:
The Port Commission is hosting a roundtable discussion on Freight Mobility in the city of Seattle.
BRIEFING OUTLINE:
The Commission will discuss the Port’s priority for a freight mobility system to enable the Port to
grow and stay competitive in light of intense market challenges in the cargo, fishing and cruise
industries. Additionally, the city’s north and south maritime and industrial centers rely on freight
connections throughout the city to grow and retain jobs, and foster strong communities. Discussion
will focus on current Seattle freight planning, investments and infrastructure, specifically including
the new Freight Advisory Board, a proposed Freight Plan, the Complete Streets Ordinance and its
implementation on Major Truck Streets, and opportunities for freight input to the Citizens
Transportation Advisory Committee III.
The Commission will hear from the Chair of the Seattle City Council’s Transportation Committee and
the director of the Seattle Department of Transportation. Following these overviews, roundtable
participants representing the freight mobility interests will give brief introductions, followed by
dialogue with commissioners and identification of next steps.
The roundtable will begin at 10:30 a.m.
